Cairo - 31st May 2023 : Stemming from its belief in the importance of the banking sector's role in social responsibility, Emirates NBD Egypt diligently strives to develop a number of schools nationwide in partnership with "Sonaa Elkhair" Foundation and as part of "Hayah Karima" Presidential Initiative.
The collaboration between Emirates NBD Egypt and Sonaa Elkhair Foundation aims to restructure El Zaeem Gamal Abdel Nasser School in Al-Nuwawrah village in Asyut, which includes more than 800 students. Repair works started during the mid-term break 2023 and lasted for 4 months. The school was inaugurated in the attendance of Asyut Governor Mr. Essam Saad, representatives from Emirates NBD Egypt, the CEO and number of representatives from "Sonaa Elkhair" Foundation.
"The development and upgrade of El Zaeem Gamal Abdel Nasser School comes within the framework of the bank's active participation in the development efforts of the Presidential Initiative "Hayah Karima". The initiative intends to improve the quality of life of 60 million Egyptians nationwide," said Amr ElShafei, CEO of Emirates NBD Egypt.
"Emirates NBD Egypt strongly believes in the significant role of corporate social responsibility in attaining a balanced development across Egypt economically, socially and environmentally to achieve sustainability, ensure the equitable distribution of development benefits, and provide a decent life for current and future generations," added ElShafei.
Hani Abdul Fattah, Executive Director of Sonaa Elkhair Foundation and member of the National Alliance, stated that as part of the Sonaa Elkhair Foundation's business strategy aimed at upgrading the educational system in general and creating a suitable learning environment by providing quality health services for students along with developing the educational institutions where they study, a new collaboration was signed with Emirates NBD-Egypt to upgrade the efficiency of schools.
Abdul Fattah also added that Sonaa Elkhair Foundation and Emirates NBD-Egypt joined forces to renovate El Zaeem Gamal Abdel Nasser School in Asyut following their joint efforts in upgrading the Egyptian countryside and creating non-traditional working opportunities, including providing 30 fishermen with fishing boats, fishing equipment in Bosat Karim El Din village in Sherbin, Dakahlia,
Renovation and maintenance include restoration of the core, shell and painting of classrooms and offices, plumbing and ceramic works, installing new bathroom sinks, renewal of electricity cables, repainting classroom desks in addition to revamping the school playground and fence, with total cost EGP 500.000.
